26/09/2003

Finally after much hassle (thanks Rob F!), the Training Band have taken delivery of their new uniforms. White polo shirt and Bright Blue Fleece, with City of Chester logo on each. Many thanks to George Tasker and the Newstead Charity for their generous donation that enabled this purchase, and to Jon Vale (band member currently overseas) for matching the Newstead donation so that we could provide all members with the uniform. The uniform was worn for the first time at Mickle Trafford Park opening, and brought very positive comments from the High Sheriff!!! The uniform can be seen again on Saturday when the Training Band joins the Main band on a Walk around the Chester Walls!!! Fanfare at 1pm from the Eastgate clock starts us off.

OK so we know they're a clever bunch.... quick update on some of the 'kids' in the band... Congrats to the following band members: Christine (TB Euph, currently on her way to Australia for a gap year), Grade 8 clarinet (yes, yes we know....) Alex (2nd cornet), Grade 6 cornet Helen (2nd baritone), Grade 4 flute (I know!) Christopher (TB Euph, main band 3rd cornet), 9 GCSE passes and a move to Reaseheath College... still close enough to make rehearsals. Special congrats to Christopher as he's just been invited to join the main band on 3rd cornet. Christine (TB Euph, Main Band Perc), A-levels passed :-), and a year off... postcard just received from Kyoto in Japan, on the way to Australia... probably not quite close enough for rehearsals! We'll keep you updated on her travels.... Anyone else passed anything recently then just let us know and we'll pop it on the website.

City of Chester Training Band - press release Sep 22nd 2003 Pictured are some of the members of The City of Chester Training Band together with the High Sheriff of Cheshire, Mrs Diana McConnell. The band were playing for the opening of a new park in Mickle Trafford, and were sporting their new uniform of sweat shirt and fleece, recently purchased following a generous donations from Newstead Charity and band member Jon Vale. The Training Band have a busy programme ahead. Next Saturday, the 27th of September, they will join the main band as they recreate the ancient tradition of Walking the Walls. Then on October 18th both bands will be in the Cathedral to celebrate 150 years of Brass in Chester.
