Training Band Update 1 Sep
Training Band restarts Sep 1st, Scout Hut
City of Chester Training Band update – 1st September 2003
Firstly welcome back!! We’ve a busy couple of months ahead, needing some serious work, but with some really good outings!
IMPORTANT: Please fill in and return the tear-off form at the bottom… think carefully before deciding not to do an event…. We need everyone there!
We also need full attendance at ALL rehearsals. There’s a lot of work to do if we’re to put on a really great performance at our Cathedral outing in October.
Outings
September 20th Opening of Mickle Trafford Park (1400h) TB only event
September 27th Walking the Walls with the main band
TB will play too!! (starts Eastgate Clock 1300h)
October 18th Cathedral Concert… TB have own slots.
Uniform
It’s arrived! Each player will get a white polo shirt, and blue fleece, both with band logo on. They are to be worn at all outings (fleece if cold!), and must be kept in good condition. There is no charge for these, thanks to Jon Vale’s generous donation earlier in the year.
Conductor
We’ve not yet found a replacement for Paula – still looking. For the moment rehearsals will be in the very competent control of Phil Mottershead, solo cornet, band Chairman, ex main and junior band conductor. Phil will conduct the band at our outings. If Phil cannot make a rehearsal then Peter Dalton will take the session. Many thanks to Phil for stepping in!!
Music
We’ll be concentrating on the music for the Cathedral. If you’ve a favourite, then let Phil know and we’ll try it. We will be trying out I Will Follow Him, from Sister Act…. But this will only be possible if we get full turn out at all rehearsals….
Tuition
Payment required for the next 5 sessions with Peter. Cost held at an incredible £10 for the 5.
Main Band percussion
Derek Mitchell (Main Band conductor) is looking for a couple of TB’ers to play percussion with the main band at the Cathedral…. Full tuition given. There will be a need to attend main band rehearsals (Mon’s and Fri’s) by arrangement. Why not give it a go…. Chat to Derek.
Posters and tickets – Cathedral concert October 18th
Posters and tickets are now available for the Cathedral Concert. Each TB player will get one ticket free-of-charge, with additional tickets costing £10 or £8 for concessions. We all need to sell as many tickets as possible!!!!! Parents, Grandparents, Uncles, Aunts, Friends, Club members, etc…. get them to come along. It’s a really good programme! Contact any of the TB organisers to get hold of a ticket. Cheques payable to ‘The City of Chester Band’.
Return this section no later than Sep 8th……

They're going fast....
We can't go into our 150th year with the out-of-date Aerospace banners. We'd like to replace them, but we've just committed all our current cash to repair the roof.
So that creates an opportunity:
Everyone who sponsors a banner will get their name on the back of the banner, a signed certificate, and their name on a banner-sponsor roll of honour in the band room, and on our band display board at each band outing and concert..... Wow!
Sounds to good to be true, so what do I do????
There are only a limited number of banners, so you need to move fast. Send an email to Ian Clowes (see contacts page) and ask for an application form. Send the form with a cheque for £35 for each banner back to Ian, and you'll go on the list of sponsors...
Remember first-come, first-served!!!
Cheers
Ian

Sunday 17th The Groves update
Great outing by the river. Together with the fee it contributed over £260 to band funds.
special thanks go to David Else and Paula Blain, who collected solidly throughout the day... fantastic job to you both!!!
3 45 minute sets, showed just how versatile the band can be.... One spectator commented that our version of James Bond was better than the one he'd heard on the proms the night before... enough said!
