A Monday rehearsal, Wednesday performance in the Town Hall and a Saturday concert...... that was the training band's week last week! (w/c 4th June)
Wednesday saw the band play for the Volunteer Awards Ceremony in Chester Town Hall in front of the Lord Mayor and Mayoress and an enthusistic audience of volunteers who were being presented with achievement awards. With many of the band not having played to an audience before the surroundings of the Town Hall, complete with sloping stage, made it quite an event. To top off the evening Paula Blain and Ian Clowes were themselves presented with certs for their work with the band.
And so on to Saturday. In a packed St Luke's church, the Training Band played their 3rd annual summer concert. This time the Deputy Mayor and Mayoress represented Chester, together with a coach load of visitors brought over from the Runcorn-based Let's Go Club by Bob Bryant, representatives from the Guide Dog Association and special guest Carolyn Shepherd (daughter of Harry) who presented the band with Harry's trombone.
Playing a challenging but entertaining programme the band had the audience buzzing by the end of the evening for the Land of Hope and Glory finale. Over £300 was raised for the guide dogs and church and many new friends made!
The Training Band is next out in Chester on the afternoon of June 21st when a small group will play for the arrival of the monks and relics celebrating the St Werberg festival (outside the town hall). For other outings check the website events section.
