Darrol Barry, the composer of last year's 4th Section National Finals test, 'A Mendip Celebration', makes another appearance with a test in the National series, this time with 'Prelude and Jubilate'.
Announcing the choice, Alan Hope said: This is an exciting work by a composer who is no stranger to the challenges of contesting music. It is rhythmically demanding for all sections of the band, yet always melodic and pleasant music.
thanks to 4barsrest.com for the info
A committee meeting is being held on Friday 22nd September so there will be no rehearsal that night.
Please note this year's solo/BBQ event will be held at Aldford Village Hall. Tony Blain has the directions if you need them. Start time is 13:00h so band members please arrive at 12:30 latest - there is no uniform requirement.
The weekend of the 16/17th September is a busy one for the band. On the Saturday afternoon you can catch the Main Band playing down by the river at the Groves - come along and have a listen.
And on Sunday the solo competition and BBQ will be held at Mickle Trafford Scout hut. This event focuses on the training band members and is in it's 5th year.
As we're ploughing steadily through our photo galleries we're placing some of the older photo's into a special gallery.
These will form the basis of band history pages as the site develops, but for now enjoy them at http://www.chesterbrass.co.uk/media/gallery/view/85
If you know who's on these photo's or you have a story to tell - just get in touch from our contact page http://www.chesterbrass.co.uk/contact
Better still if you have any photo's of the band drop us a line. We're happy to scan old images and add them to our galleries and band history.
Due to the bad weather the Mickle Trafford family day is being provisionally moved to Saturday Sep 9th. The training band will no longer be participating in the event.
Firstly an overdue congratulations to the love birds Clair (Main and Training Band Horn) and Mike on getting engaged... fantastic news. Time Mike started having brass lessons Clair!
And secondly to Matthew McCleary (Training Band solo cornet) who has just passed his grade 3 on clarinet - with distinction!
Maybe Matthew could give Mike a few lessons...
Over the years The City of Chester Band has had several versions of their popular website. Today sees the launch of the latest band site. Changes were needed to improve the functionality of the site - which had been lost in recent years (for 'techy' reasons!).
This site has been developed from scratch, and launches today with limited, but up-to-date information, stories and images. Over the coming days and weeks additional material will be added - including archive images of past events, band member profiles, more detailed band history, friendly links, sponsor details and lots of other fascinating features, bells and whistles.
If you spot an error or have an idea for the site email
[email protected] with the full details so that we can sort it!
Thanks are due to our webmaster Philip for the many many hours of development work that have gone into this latest version!
