PRESS RELEASE – 2nd April 2008
City of Chester Training Band – entertaining the lions of Longleat
The City of Chester Training Band headed South last weekend and toured in style around the sights of London and played for the lions of Longleat. After taking in the London musicals on Friday night the band members, families and friends headed for Windsor Castle where they joined the band of the Scots Guards who hosted them for the day on Saturday.
Following the changing of the guard at Windsor Castle the group moved to Wellington Barracks next to Buckingham Palace and toured the Scots Guard band room and enjoyed a photo-shoot in front of the Palace – after some impromptu marching practice on the barrack square. The band were then let loose in London and between them managed to see the majority of the major London sights!
Sunday saw the band move to Longleat and a visit to the safari park followed by a lively outdoor concert performance next to the great house at Longleat; under blue skies and a hot sun!
The tour was organised by band coordinator Tony Blain and his wife Paula, who did a magnificent job resulting in a fantastic tour for the 62 participants.
The weary but happy band returned to Chester on Sunday night and begin rehearsals next Monday for a busy summer schedule. They’re already booked to appear at the Halton Fun Day on the 10th of May, the June Volunteer Award ceremony in Chester and Aldford Village Fete also in June.
Always looking for new players, the band is open to all ages and abilities and has loan instruments and tuition available. Visit the band’s website at www.chesterbrass.co.uk for more information. Rehearsals are held most Mondays at St Luke’s Church in Huntington from 6pm to 7.30.
