The band was pleased to see Verona Else at training band the other Monday to give out the David Else Vice President Award to percussioninst Noah. Well done Noah. Paula snapped some photo's of the presentation which can be seen in the photo gallery.

Please note our summer Training Band rehearsals are being held in the band room. Starting at 6pm the rehearsal will run until 7.30pm as usual, but will then continue until main band at 8pm. This is to allow members of the main band to join the training band for a bit of joint playing.

Future dates: 28th July, 4th August and the 1st September.

Remember solo comp on the 7th!

Up until Xmas the training band will be held in the band room on the first Monday of every month. These rehearsals will run from 6pm until 8pm with main band members sitting-in from 7.30pm.

Sep 1st, Oct 6th, Nov 3rd, Dec 1st

If you would like to sit-in on the main band rehearsal just check with Ian.

Main band rehearsals continue Mon/Weds at 8pm until the Dunham concert and then there is a break until Sep 1st.

Derek will take the 2 rehearsals and Dunham concert :)

This Sunday - 13th July, come and join the training band as they play on the bandstand at The Groves. Starting at 2pm we'll be playing a wide range of music for all to enjoy :)

We need lots of collectors - to take money from passers-by (enjoying the music), and any main band or friendly championship players who would like to sit in - you're welcome. Just email [email protected] to let us know.

The City of Chester Band is sad to announce the death of one of its strongest supporters, David Else. David has been fighting serious illness for some time, but still managed to participate in the recent training band tour. David was the driving force behind the successful lottery bid for funds for new main band instruments, and a long-term supporter of the training band - as both a playing member on trombone and an active supporter; donating the Vice President's Award aimed at encouraging newer band members. As a band Vice President David and his wife Verona were regular visitors to band events and David was often out collecting with both bands, whatever the weather!

Our thoughts are with his wife Verona and family.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday 8th July at 1200h, Blacon crematorium. The band will be playing during the service. Band uniform and band ties please.

Could any players who will be attending please let Ian know you will be there.

The family have asked for donations, not flowers, which will go to 3 charities: The Hospice of the Good Shepherd, Marie Curie, The City of Chester Training band.

Monday 23rd June

TB rehearsal as normal. But main band rehearsal will be a 'complete the redecoration' night! The merry band is working over Saturday/Sunday to decorate the bandroom, but it will take Monday night too. Come along with old clothes and a smile :)

Wednesday 25th June

Our first Weds night rehearsal. Should be a playing one, assuming the team are through on Monday/Tuesday night!

OK so you were thinking of moving house, but can't now get a mortgage, and can't afford to go out any more - so dust off that old instrument and come along and join us - for a no-cost fun time!

Yep, no fees, but lots of fun.

We've been a bit careless recently; losing a trombone player, a Bbflat bass player and a couple of cornet players. Most have moved out of the area through work. So if you would like to join a thriving and fun 3rd section band, then contact us for more info and to come along and have a blow.

We're also on the look out for handy percussion players....

Following the change in rehearsal night the band is very pleased to announce that Friday Night IS music night. If you have a venue and an audience contact the band and organise a Friday night concert - splitting proceedes 50:50.

Following lots of discussion and continued poor attendance on Fridays, band rehearsals will move to Monday and Wednesday night. This will start week commencing Monday 23rd June with Weds 25th replacing the Friday. Following weeks will continue Mon/Weds. Rehearsals start (baton down!) at 8pm.
