For the past few months, members of the City of Chester Band have been joined in their rehearsals by Sahra Périsset, a Swiss person who has been staying in Chester whilst undertaking an English language course (English in Chester). Sahra, who plays a Bb cornet, hails from Fribourg and is a member of Fanfare Paroissiale de Promasens, Promasens being a village close to Fribourg. Despite being on an intensive course of study Sahra has attended many rehearsals with City of Chester Band and Wednesday 1 June was her last before returning to Switzerland.
Back in Switzerland, Sahra will be looking for work where she can use her English-speaking skills. On behalf of all band members, Musical Director Philip Mottershead wished Sahra every success in the future.
Over many years, Chester Band have entertained a number of Swiss students who have been studying in Chester.
British band ensembles are very popular in Switzerland, Chester Band having toured there in 1982 (Lausanne, Porrentruy and Biel/Bienne) under their then Musical Director, the late John Golland.
